Which Hair Supplements Publish the Amount of Each Ingredient? 15 of 40

"Which hair supplements publish the amount of each ingredient?" sounds like a question about honesty. It is a question about arithmetic. Between 7 and 9 September 2026 we read the Supplement Facts panel of 40 hair supplements sold to men in the United States — the same 40 as our saw palmetto survey — and asked one thing of each: does every named ingredient have a figure of its own, or does part of the formula sit behind a single total? Then we asked a second thing: is that panel text, or a picture? The 40 answers are in the table below, with a link and a reading date for each, and our own product is in it, scored by the same rule.

Which hair supplements publish the amount of each ingredient?

Fifteen of the 40 hair supplements give every named ingredient a figure of its own, and only two of those 15 — Lunakai Pro and BLOOHAIR MEN — do it in text rather than on a picture; 22 of the 40 put part of the formula inside a proprietary blend or a "complex" with one total, two more give a single figure to two extracts, and one, the Hims Biotin Gummies, lists ingredient names with amounts for just two of them (labels read 7–9 September 2026).

The 15 are not the expensive ones. Thirteen of them print the full panel on a label image in an Amazon gallery or a brand-site modal — BosleyMD's Healthy Hair Growth Supplements for Men, NutraPro's two men's formulas, Havasu Nutrition, B Life, HiWell Absorfyx, Hairgenx, Keeps, Propidren, Pure Research, Herbtonics, Micro Ingredients and Nutrivein — and two publish it as text: Lunakai in its Amazon ingredient list, and BLOOHAIR MEN on its product page and on a dedicated page. Between them the 15 cost from $6.66 to $64.99 per 30 days; the top of that range is BLOOHAIR MEN's own monthly plan, and the same bottle is $54.99 a month on its 90-day plan (our prices, 20 September 2026). The 22 that use a blend include the two most expensive products in the table, Nutrafol Men and Nutrafol Men 50+ at $88.00, as well as Wellbel Men at $61.20 and Moon Juice SuperHair at $58.75 — and also the cheapest saw palmetto product, Horbäach at $8.50, so price predicts nothing here in either direction.

The rule we used, and the two products it caught

We counted a product as publishing the amount of each ingredient only if every named dietary ingredient on its panel has a figure next to it. A proprietary blend fails by definition, whatever it is called. So does an otherwise complete panel that gives one figure to two ingredients — and two panels do. Life Extension's Hair Growth for Men, which our saw palmetto survey counted, correctly, among the three products that print their panel in text, lists Actrisave at 250 mg and then, under that single figure, two extracts: black rice seed and prickly pear flower (lifeextension.com, re-read 15 September 2026). Force Factor's Hair Growth Accelerator Pro gives 427 mg to one line that names two saw palmetto extracts. Both products publish more than most of the table; neither lets you know the dose of every ingredient, and the rule has to be the same for everyone or it is not a rule.

What does the law require a label to show for each ingredient, and what does a blend let it skip?

21 CFR 101.36(b)(3)(ii) requires the quantitative amount by weight per serving of each "other dietary ingredient" — every botanical, amino acid or extract — but paragraph (c) lets a manufacturer group those ingredients under "Proprietary Blend" or "other appropriately descriptive term or fanciful name", list them in descending order of weight, and print one total for the group (eCFR, read 15 September 2026); vitamins and minerals inside a blend must still carry their own amounts under (c)(1).

Three consequences follow, and the table shows all three. First, the word "blend" need not appear: Nutrafol's "Synergen Complex", Viviscal's "AminoMar Marine Complex", BosleyMD's "DHT·7 Blend" and Dr. Berg's "trace mineral complex" are all the same legal object, a fanciful name over a single total. Second, the descending-order rule gives a reader a ceiling and nothing else: an ingredient listed third in a blend cannot weigh more than a third of the total, and can weigh almost nothing. Nutrafol Men's Synergen Complex is 1,720 mg over six ingredients on the label image re-read on 24 September 2026, with saw palmetto first, so the saw palmetto is at least 287 mg and at most 1,720 mg; DrFormulas' 562 mg blend spreads over 28 botanicals, so the average is 20 mg and no single ingredient can be more than 562 mg. Third, a blend is not a violation. It is the regulation working as written, and a brand that uses one has said less than the law lets it say — nothing more.

Two blends that hold a vitamin

Paragraph (c)(1) is the exception inside the exception: an ingredient that has a Daily Value, such as biotin, keeps its own amount even when it is placed inside a blend. On the label images we read on 7 September 2026, Vivaravida's and Talyvorlathor's identical formulas list biotin inside a 200 mg "Hair Proprietary Blend" with fo-ti and no figure for either. Both are sold as "DHT Blocker for Men with Saw Palmetto & Biotin". We report what the label image shows; the brand's own reading of the rule is its to give, and we will print it, dated, if it writes to us.

How much of a formula sits inside a blend?

Among the 20 products that publish a blend total, the weight behind one figure runs from 20 mg a day (Dr. Berg's trace mineral complex) to 2,295 mg (Nutrafol Men's Synergen Complex plus Nutrafol Blend), with a median of 1,011.5 mg; at least 193 named ingredients across 18 products carry no figure of their own, and two products — Procerin and BosleyMD's DHT Blocking supplement — declare a blend and publish no total at all.

The totals say different things at different sizes. At the top, Nutrafol Men puts 2,295 mg of its formula behind two names — the Synergen Complex, 1,720 mg over six ingredients, and the Nutrafol Blend, 575 mg over eight — so 14 of its ingredients have a ceiling and no floor. Advanced Trichology's DHT Blocker with Immune Support hides 1,890 mg in two blends; Clean Nutraceuticals' collagen formula 1,650 mg in three, one of them a 1,000 mg "MultiMane Collagen Proprietary Complex" whose components the panel image we read did not let us itemise. HevChay's DHT Blocker prints 600 mg of saw palmetto on its own line and then places 13 further ingredients in three blends totalling 1,050 mg, so the same label is complete for its headline ingredient and silent on 1,050 mg of the "1900 mg" in its own product title. At the bottom, Horbäach's 130 mg-per-tablet blend covers eight botanicals in 260 mg a day — the label says the blend is "equivalent" to 420 mg of raw plant, which is a statement about extraction ratios, not a dose — and Dr. Berg's 20 mg "trace mineral complex" is a rounding error on a panel that otherwise prints everything.

Two products with a blend and no total

Procerin describes a 17-ingredient proprietary blend on procerin.com, names nine of the 17 in its FAQ, and publishes no Supplement Facts panel we could find on the site; Amazon shows a bottle photograph too small to read (8 September 2026). BosleyMD's DHT Blocking Supplements for Women and Men names a "DHT·7 Blend" in the title, has no panel image in its Amazon gallery, fills Amazon's "Ingredients" field with claims rather than ingredients, and is no longer listed on the brand's own site (9 September 2026). For those two, the blend total is not something we failed to find; it is something the brand has not put anywhere a buyer can look.

Does it matter whether the figures are in text or on a picture?

Three of the 40 products publish their panel as text a machine can read — Life Extension, Lunakai and BLOOHAIR MEN — while 34 publish it only as an image, two publish no legible panel, and one prints names in text with two figures; and the listing text a shopper, a search engine or an AI assistant actually reads gives complete amounts for 3 products, one or two figures for 3 (HevChay, Hims, Keeps) and none at all for 34.

A picture of a panel is readable by a person who enlarges it and by nothing else. A screen reader cannot speak it; a search engine indexes the alt text, which on the Amazon galleries we read is the product title; an AI assistant asked "how much saw palmetto is in this product" answers from the listing text, and on 34 of these 40 listings the text gives ingredient names, marketing phrases or nothing. That is why the two counts in this article are different questions. Thirteen products that print every figure on a label image have done the harder thing — deciding to disclose — and then stored the disclosure where a machine cannot find it. The test we set our own product is the stricter one: the panel exists in HTML on the product page and on a page of its own, and it is the reason a copy of every figure can be checked by anyone, in thirty seconds, without taking our word for it.

What did each of the 40 labels say?

Every row below records where the panel was found, whether every named ingredient carries its own figure, what stands behind a single total where one exists, and what the listing text gives without opening an image — read on the date shown, with the page linked; "none legible" means we searched the listing and the brand site and found no panel a person could read.

The rows are the same 40 products, in the same order, as the saw palmetto survey, and the blend totals are per day at the labelled serving. One correction to the dataset attached to that survey: its blend_total_mg for Viviscal Man was recorded per tablet (545 mg); the panel gives 545 mg of AminoMar Marine Complex per tablet and the product page directs two tablets a day, so this table uses 1,090 mg a day, and the file will be updated, dated, at its next release.

Where does BLOOHAIR MEN sit, and what does publishing every figure prove?

BLOOHAIR MEN is one of the 15 products that give every ingredient its own figure and one of the only two that do it in text — 22 ingredients, 22 amounts, on the product page and the Supplement Facts page — and it is the one product in this table whose finished-product certificate of analysis is published in full, so a reader can check the measured result against every printed figure.

Two things a reader of our own panel should know. The first is that our label uses two group headings, "Men's Hair Vitality Complex" and "Bloohair Blend", and the second contains the word this whole article is about — but every line under both headings carries its own milligram: saw palmetto 200 mg, nettle root 100 mg, pygeum 100 mg, pumpkin seed 100 mg and grape seed 100 mg under the first, which totals 600 mg; keratin 250 mg, marine collagen 250 mg, MSM 200 mg and seven more under the second, which totals 1,110 mg. The group totals are printed as well, so the headings are headings, not blends, and we scored ourselves on that basis. We say it here rather than let a reader find the word and wonder. The second is that an amount printed is an amount promised, and on 10 September 2026 we published the certificate for lot 0125269 on the Lab Tests page so anyone can check it: 19 of the 22 actives measured at 100–101% of claim, turmeric at 101%, vitamin C at 111%, grape seed extract at 113% and zinc at 148% — 37 mg against 25 mg on the label, inside the manufacturer's acceptance range and under the 40 mg adult upper intake level. We publish the results that flatter the label and the two that do not, because a certificate you only publish when it flatters you is not a published certificate. No other product in this table lets a buyer do that check at all.

What else do people ask about ingredient amounts on hair supplement labels?

Does Nutrafol publish the amount of each ingredient?

Not for its botanicals. On the Nutrafol Men label image re-read on 24 September 2026, Nutrafol Men lists saw palmetto, ashwagandha and four other ingredients inside a 1,720 mg Synergen Complex and eight more inside a 575 mg Nutrafol Blend, with one total for each group; the vitamins and minerals outside the blends — biotin 3,000 mcg among them — carry their own amounts, as the regulation requires. Nutrafol Men 50+ is built the same way with a 1,330 mg complex and a 166 mg blend.

Is a proprietary blend legal on a supplement label?

Yes. 21 CFR 101.36(c) permits it, provided the blend's ingredients are listed in descending order of weight and the blend's total weight is printed; vitamins and minerals inside the blend keep their own amounts. A brand that uses a proprietary blend is complying with the rule. It has chosen to disclose the minimum the rule allows, which is a different statement from a violation and should be read as one.

Can you work out an ingredient's dose from a proprietary blend?

Only its ceiling. The descending-order rule means the first-listed ingredient is the heaviest and the last the lightest, so an ingredient listed nth in a blend of N cannot exceed the total divided by n — Nutrafol Men's saw palmetto, first of six in 1,720 mg, is at least 287 mg and at most 1,720 mg. Nothing on the label narrows that range, and a brand is not obliged to.

Why does it matter if the Supplement Facts panel is an image?

Because only a person can read it. A screen reader, a search engine and an AI assistant read the page's text, and on 34 of the 40 listings in this table the text gives no amounts at all. A panel published as text can be quoted, checked and compared by anyone; a panel published as a picture can be checked by a person who enlarges the photograph and by no one else. Three of the 40 products publish the panel as text: Life Extension, Lunakai and BLOOHAIR MEN.

Does BLOOHAIR MEN use a proprietary blend?

No. The label groups its 22 ingredients under two headings, "Men's Hair Vitality Complex" and "Bloohair Blend", and every line under both carries its own amount — the headings organise the list, they do not replace the figures.
