What the literature associates with male hair thinning

What Actually Causes Hair Thinning In Men?

Six factors. Pick one, and see exactly which of the 22 ingredients work on it, and what each one is for. They are not 22 separate supplements — they are one formula, four capsules, once a day. Every amount is printed on the Supplement Facts page.*

Hormones · what the formula puts in front of it

Five botanicals for DHT support

5of the 22 ingredients
Five at once, not one on its own — and each named with its extract ratio instead of a blend name.
Saw palmettoSupports healthy DHT levels: the hormonal factor behind the most common pattern of male thinning. Standardised to 45% fatty acids, the active part.
Pygeum barkSupports men's hormonal balance: paired with saw palmetto in men's formulas for decades. A 4:1 concentrated extract.
Nettle rootSupports healthy hormone balance: in men. The root, not the leaf — the part traditionally used for this. A 4:1 extract.
Pumpkin seedSupports men's hair and prostate comfort: a natural source of zinc and plant sterols. A 10:1 extract.
Grape seedSupports healthy circulation: which is how the follicle gets fed. 95% OPC, a powerful antioxidant.
In one lineFive botanicals working on healthy DHT levels at the same time. Supports, never blocks.*
The cause, the limits, and the sources

Androgenetic alopecia affects an estimated 50 million men in the United States and is related to androgens, specifically dihydrotestosterone. A family history carries an odds ratio of 2.72 (95% CI 1.85–3.99) across 7 studies.

The limits, stated plainly: this is a supplement, not a substitute for finasteride or minoxidil, which are drugs. Our saw palmetto is 200 mg per serving; the two controlled trials that measured saw palmetto used 320 mg and 320–960 mg, and both measured prostate outcomes rather than hair. No controlled trial has tested this formula as a whole.

Ageing · what the formula puts in front of it

Seven ingredients for stronger hair and firmer skin

7of the 22 ingredients
With the years, hair gets finer and the scalp drier. These seven work on the fibre itself and on the skin it grows from.
Hydrolyzed keratinStronger, more resilient hair: hair is keratin, and this is the same protein, hydrolyzed so the body can take it in.
Hydrolyzed marine collagenFirmer, more elastic skin: scalp included, since that is where every hair starts. Fish-derived.
MSMBuilds the hair fibre: a source of sulfur, one of the elements that holds hair together.
Vitamin CSupports collagen formation: it is what lets the collagen beside it do its job.
Bamboo silicaStronger hair and nails: silicon is found in both. A 70% silica extract.
Hyaluronic acidA hydrated, supple scalp: it holds many times its own weight in water.
Fo-ti rootTraditionally used for hair: one of the oldest botanicals in the category.
In one lineStronger hair, firmer skin, a better-hydrated scalp — the three things that fade with the years.*
50%+of men over 50
More than half of all men over 50 have some degree of hair loss. It is the single most common thing that happens to men's hair — and the reason to start supporting it early rather than late.
100 men over 50 · each dark dot is one of them affected
The cause, the limits, and the sources

More than 50 percent of men over age 50 have some degree of hair loss. The dots above are the scale of the factor, not a claim about the capsule.

The limits, stated plainly: nothing here has been shown to change age-related thinning, and no controlled trial has tested this formula. Our marine collagen is 250 mg per serving; published collagen-peptide trials use 2.5 to 10 g.

Stress · what the formula puts in front of it

Four ingredients for a calmer week

4of the 22 ingredients
Two adaptogens, one botanical for the inflammatory side, and the pepper extract that makes it absorbable instead of wasted.
Ashwagandha rootA calmer response to stress: an adaptogen that also helps you wind down at the end of the day. Standardised to 5% withanolides.
Turmeric rootSupports normal inflammatory balance: 95% curcuminoids — a concentrated extract, not the kitchen spice.
ReishiSupports restful sleep: a 10:1 mushroom extract. Sleep is when the body does its repair work.
Black pepperMakes the turmeric absorbable: curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own. 95% piperine.
In one lineCalmer days, better nights, and absorption built in rather than assumed.*
The cause, the limits, and the sources

Stress-related shedding is benign and spontaneously reversible: the trigger precedes it by about 3 months, range 1 to 6, and 100 or more hairs in 24 hours suggests it. Because it resolves on its own, anything taken while it resolves can appear to have worked — that applies to the whole category, ours included.

The limits, stated plainly: our ashwagandha is 100 mg per serving, where the stress trials on the NIH fact sheet use 240 to 1,250 mg, and that fact sheet does not mention hair anywhere.

Lifestyle · what the formula puts in front of it

Seven ingredients for sleep and everyday wear

7of the 22 ingredients
Late nights, alcohol and a hard week all push the same way: oxidative stress. Two ingredients here work on the sleep, five on the wear.
Ashwagandha rootCalmer days, better nights: an adaptogen for a demanding week. 5% withanolides.
ReishiSupports restful sleep: the other half of the sleep side. A 10:1 extract.
Grape seedAntioxidant and circulation: 95% OPC, the most concentrated antioxidant in the formula.
Turmeric rootSupports normal inflammatory balance: 95% curcuminoids, for the weeks that ask a lot.
Vitamin CProtects cells from oxidative stress: and supports normal immune function.
Vitamin EProtects cell membranes: the fat-soluble antioxidant, where vitamin C cannot reach.
SeleniumSupports antioxidant defences: and normal hair and nail health.
In one lineTwo ingredients for the nights, five for the wear of everything else.*
The cause, the limits, and the sources

In the largest meta-analysis available, smoking carries an odds ratio of 1.46 (1.06–2.01) across 11 studies for having the condition and 1.60 (1.29–1.99) for its progression across 5. Alcohol and poor sleep were not significantly associated with having the condition — 1.15 (0.92–1.43) and 1.28 (0.86–1.93) — though for progression the intervals do not cross 1.0: alcohol 1.72 (1.28–2.32), sleep 1.36 (1.18–1.56). Both null results are printed here rather than left out, because they are in the paper.

The limits, stated plainly: no capsule offsets smoking. That lever costs nothing and it belongs to the reader, not to us.

Li H, Li W, Zhang J, et al. Risk factors for androgenetic alopecia: a systematic review and meta-analysis. BMC Public Health 2026;26:1000 — 31 studies, 11,224 cases, 36,825 controls, read 16 September 2026

Nutrition · what the formula puts in front of it

Seven micronutrients for hair, skin and nails

7of the 22 ingredients
A follicle is one of the fastest-growing structures in the body, and it draws on the same nutrients as skin and nails. Four capsules with a meal keep that supply steady.
BiotinHair, skin and nails: the B vitamin the whole category is built on.
ZincFeeds fast-growing cells: the follicle is one of them. An amino acid chelate, chosen for absorption.
SeleniumNormal hair and nails: plus the body's own antioxidant defences. An amino acid chelate.
IodineSupports normal thyroid function: the gland that sets the body's pace. From organic kelp.
Vitamin DSupports normal cell division: as cholecalciferol, the form the body makes from sunlight.
Vitamin CCollagen and iron absorption: two things hair depends on.
Vitamin EProtects scalp cells: the fat-soluble antioxidant.
In one lineThe seven micronutrients hair, skin and nails all draw on — each one printed with its % Daily Value.*
The cause, the limits, and the sources

The most cited review on diet and hair loss concludes that “further research is required to determine whether any benefit exists for nutrient supplementation in the absence of documented deficiency”, and warns some supplements may worsen hair loss or carry a toxicity risk. A blood test tells you whether you are deficient; a label cannot.

The limits, stated plainly: biotin at 3,000 mcg is 10,000% of the Daily Value — a category dose, not a dose established by research. And on lot 0125269 our own zinc measured 37.00 mg against a 25.00 mg claim, 148% of the claim and 92% of the 40 mg adult upper limit from all sources. The full certificate is on the Lab Tests page.

Metabolic health · what the formula puts in front of it

The one factor that belongs with your physician

1of the 22 ingredients
Insulin, blood pressure and weight are your doctor's ground, not a supplement's. What the formula does here is make sure everything else in it actually reaches you.
Black pepperMakes the formula absorbable: 95% piperine. It is the reason 22 ingredients are more than a long list — what is in the capsule has to reach you.
In one lineAbsorption. And the honest answer on this one: it is your doctor's ground, not ours.*
The cause, the limits, and the sources

Insulin resistance, measured by HOMA-IR, shows a standardised mean difference of 0.40 (95% CI 0.27–0.53) across 5 studies, and fasting insulin 0.48 (0.18–0.78) across 9. Hypertension carries an odds ratio of 1.60 (1.26–2.04) across 7 studies in men, and being overweight or obese 2.31 (1.01–5.29) for progression across 3.

The limits, stated plainly: nothing on this label acts on insulin resistance, blood pressure or weight. A hair supplement that implied otherwise would be making a drug claim.

Association is not cause: a meta-analysis of observational studies shows that two things occur together, not that one produces the other. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing here claims BLOOHAIR MEN treats, prevents or reverses any of these six things.*

Twenty-two ingredients. Four focused roles.

What Does Each Of The 22 Ingredients Do?

Every ingredient in BLOOHAIR MEN has a role in one of four areas — DHT support, stress support, scalp and follicle health, or hair structure. Four pillars, four capsules, once a day.*

DHT Support

The hormonal factor behind the most common pattern of male thinning. Five botanicals work on it at the same time, supporting healthy DHT levels — supports, never blocks.*

  • Saw palmetto
  • Nettle root
  • Pygeum bark
  • Pumpkin seed
  • Grape seed

Stress Support

A demanding stretch shows up in your hair months later, not the same week. Adaptogens support the body's response to everyday stress, and a more restful night.*

  • Ashwagandha
  • Reishi
  • Turmeric
  • Black pepper

Scalp & Follicle Health

Hair grows out of skin, and skin needs water and minerals. This group supports scalp hydration and feeds the follicle's fast-dividing cells.*

  • MSM
  • Bamboo silica
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Zinc, selenium and iodine
  • Vitamins C, D and E

Hair Structure Support

Hair is protein. These supply the building blocks it is actually made of, and support the strength and resilience of the fibre itself.*

  • Hydrolyzed keratin
  • Marine collagen (fish)
  • Biotin
  • Fo-ti root
What the formula supports

What Can I Expect With Consistent Use?

Taken daily, BLOOHAIR MEN supports four things — nutrition for the follicle, healthy DHT levels, the structure and strength of the hair shaft, and the body's response to everyday stress — and every one of them is served by named ingredients at printed amounts.*

What the formula does, month by month
  1. Month 1 Everything, from day one

No loading phase. Four capsules, all 22 printed amounts: nutrition for the follicle, support for healthy DHT levels, and adaptogens for everyday stress.*

  2. Month 3 The hair you will see is being built now

A strand is formed inside the follicle long before it shows. Ninety days of keratin, marine collagen, MSM and silica supporting the strength of that fibre.*

  3. Month 6 Not just your scalp

Beard, skin and nails run on the same proteins and minerals. Six months in, every one of them has had the full 22 at printed amounts, every day.*

  4. Month 12 Support that never stops

A follicle cycle runs for years, so support that stops is support wasted. Twelve months in, the same 22 still arrive at the same printed amounts, every day.*

  1. Nutrition for the follicle

A follicle is a small, fast-dividing organ that draws on the same nutrients as the rest of the body — consistent use keeps the supply steady.*

    • Biotin 3,000 mcg, zinc 25 mg, selenium 200 mcg, iodine 225 mcg and vitamins C 200 mg, D 62.5 mcg and E 20 mg — the micronutrients most often studied in relation to hair, at printed amounts.
    • MSM 200 mg and bamboo silica 50 mg — sources of sulfur and silicon, two elements found in the hair shaft.*
    • Four capsules with one meal, once a day: the same amount reaches the follicle every day.
  2. Support for healthy DHT levels

Five botanicals at printed amounts, selected for their traditional and researched association with DHT.*

    • Saw palmetto 200 mg, standardised to 45% fatty acids — the most studied of the five, mostly for prostate symptoms; the hair evidence is smaller and uses a range of doses.
    • Pygeum bark 100 mg, nettle root 100 mg, pumpkin seed 100 mg, grape seed 100 mg — each with its own amount, not a blend total.
    • Supports — never blocks. A dietary supplement cannot claim to block a hormone or treat hair loss, and this one does not.
  3. Strength for the hair shaft

Hair is keratin; the formula supplies the structural proteins and supports strength and resilience with daily use.*

    • Hydrolyzed keratin 250 mg — the protein hair is made of, in a solubilized form.
    • Hydrolyzed marine collagen 250 mg — fish-derived, and declared as such.
    • Hyaluronic acid 50 mg, as sodium hyaluronate, alongside the vitamins and minerals above.
  4. A calmer response to stress

Stress is one of the factors associated with shedding; the adaptogens in the formula support the body's response to it.*

    • Ashwagandha 100 mg, standardised to 5% withanolides.
    • Reishi 50 mg (10:1 extract) and turmeric 100 mg (95% curcuminoids) with black pepper 10 mg (95% piperine) for absorption.
    • Consistency matters more than timing — morning or evening, with a meal.

Consistency is key: support your hair from within with premium ingredients, every single day
Consistency is key

How Long Do You Have To Take A Hair Supplement?

Hair grows on a timescale of months, not days: a strand grows roughly a centimetre a month, and a follicle cycle runs for years. A supplement taken daily is a habit, not an event.

That is the honest reason the 90-day plan exists. It is not a promise about what you will see in 90 days — no controlled trial has tested this formula, and we will not print a timeline we cannot support. It is the length of a fair trial: long enough to know whether four capsules with breakfast fits your routine, and long enough for anything hair-related to be judged at all.*

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is BLOOHAIR MEN designed for?
BLOOHAIR MEN is designed for adult men who want to proactively support fuller-looking hair, hair strength, scalp health, and overall hair wellness.
Is BLOOHAIR MEN a drug or prescription product?
No. BLOOHAIR MEN is a dietary supplement and does not require a prescription. It is formulated to support men's hair wellness from within and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
How do I take BLOOHAIR MEN?
Take four capsules once daily with a meal. There is no need to split the serving. One bottle contains 120 capsules, providing a 30-day supply.
What is included in the formula?
BLOOHAIR MEN contains 22 ingredients supporting four focused areas: DHT support, everyday stress support, scalp health, and hair structure support. Every ingredient and dose is fully disclosed on the label.
Does BLOOHAIR MEN use a proprietary blend?
No. Every ingredient and its exact amount are clearly listed on the Supplement Facts panel. The label groups them under two headings and prints the total of each - Bloohair Blend 1,110 mg and Men's Hair Vitality Complex 600 mg - and then prints every individual amount underneath, which add up to those totals. A proprietary blend publishes the total and hides the lines; here you get both.
Can I take BLOOHAIR MEN with other supplements?
BLOOHAIR MEN can generally be used alongside other supplements, but always compare labels to avoid duplicating vitamins and minerals. Consult a healthcare professional before use if you take medication, have a medical condition, or have specific health concerns.
Which hair supplements publish the amount of each ingredient?
BLOOHAIR MEN discloses a specific dose for every one of its 22 active ingredients; no ingredient is inside a proprietary blend. The amounts are published three ways, so a person and a machine read the same panel: as selectable text on the product page and at bloohair.co/pages/supplement-facts; as structured data inside the page's Product markup, where each of the 22 ingredients carries a numeric value and a separate unit; and as a downloadable file at bloohair.co/pages/supplement-facts-csv. Across the eight hair supplements we read on 5 September 2026, two published an individual amount for every ingredient as text on the product page - BLOOHAIR MEN (22 of 22) and Nature's Bounty Extra Strength Hair, Skin and Nails (23 of 23). Nutrafol Men published amounts for 10 of its 24 ingredients and totals for its two proprietary blends (Synergen Complex 1.72 g, Nutrafol Blend 575 mg), on a label served as an image. The full reading, with the source for every line, is at bloohair.co/blogs/journal/nutrafol-alternatives-what-each-label-lets-you-verify
How much saw palmetto is in BLOOHAIR MEN, and is the extract standardised?
Each 4-capsule serving contains 200 mg of saw palmetto extract, standardised to 45% fatty acids. The amount and the standardisation are both printed on the label and repeated as text on the Supplement Facts page, so you can compare them with any other product before you buy. Standardisation matters because two extracts of the same weight are not the same thing if one is concentrated and the other is not.
When should I stop taking biotin before a blood test?
The FDA gives no number: its safety communication (2017, updated 2019) says that "sufficient information is not available to know if stopping biotin consumption for any number of hours prior to testing will prevent incorrect test results", and tells patients to tell their physician and the laboratory that they take biotin. The laboratories and societies that do publish a figure, read 6 September 2026: Quest Diagnostics and the AACC guidance advise 8 hours at ordinary multivitamin doses and 72 hours at hair-supplement doses of 5 to 10 mg; the American Thyroid Association advises 2 days before thyroid tests; Cleveland Clinic advises 72 hours and names 3,000 mcg hair supplements. Each serving of BLOOHAIR MEN contains 3,000 mcg of biotin, so we advise pausing it for 72 hours before any blood draw and saying so on the intake form. Never stop a prescribed medication over anything you read on a supplement page. The sources, and which tests read falsely low or falsely high, are in our article Biotin and Blood Tests at bloohair.co/blogs/journal/biotin-and-blood-tests-what-the-fda-safety-communication-says.
What does BLOOHAIR MEN cost per month at the renewal price?
On the 90-day AutoShip, BLOOHAIR MEN is $54.99 per bottle per month at the renewal price, which is $164.97 per 3-bottle cycle; on the monthly plan it is $64.99. The first order is discounted on both plans: $54.99 on the monthly plan, which is $10.00 off, and $109.98 for three bottles on the 90-day plan, which is $36.66 per bottle. Our prices last changed on 20 September 2026, and the figures on this site are always the current ones. The renewal price is the one to compare, on our side and on anyone else's: comparing an introductory price with a competitor's standing price would not be an honest comparison. Orders placed at bloohair.co ship from fulfilment centres in the United States, to addresses in the United States only.
Where can I see the certificate of analysis and the allergen report?
On the Lab Tests page at bloohair.co/pages/lab-tests, without contacting us and without an email address. Both documents for lot 0125269 are published there in full, as text rather than as a summary. The finished-product certificate of analysis from the manufacturer's laboratory gives the label claim, the test method and the measured result for each of the 22 active ingredients, plus the microbiology and the heavy metals - including zinc measured at 37.00 mg against a 25.00 mg claim, which is 148% of the claim and 92% of the 40 mg adult upper limit from all sources. We publish that figure because a certificate you only publish when it flatters you is not a published certificate. The allergen report from Contract Testing Laboratories of America, signed 19 December 2025, found gluten below 4 ppm, soy below 0.04 ppm and milk below 0.4 ppm by ELISA; it does not test for fish, because fish is in the formula by design rather than by contamination. The manufacturing facility's NSF/ANSI 455-2 GMP certification is published on the same page, also as text, with its scope and its dates. Corrected 16 September 2026: this answer still described the two laboratory documents as documents the page would list, six days after both of them were published in full. Corrected 20 September 2026: this answer stated that no GMP facility certificate was published; the certification exists and is now transcribed on that page. We think a document you have to request is not a published document.
Do the doses in BLOOHAIR MEN match the doses used in published research?
Not all of them, and we say which. Biotin at 3,000 mcg is 10,000% of the Daily Value: it is the dose the hair category standardised on, not a dose established by research, and the NIH describes the evidence for biotin on hair as limited to a few case reports and small studies. Hydrolyzed marine collagen at 250 mg is ten to forty times below the 2.5 to 10 g per day used in published collagen peptide trials; it is here as a structural protein alongside keratin, not as a collagen powder. Saw palmetto at 200 mg standardised to 45% fatty acids and ashwagandha at 100 mg standardised to 5% withanolides sit within or near the ranges used in published work on those extracts. No controlled trial has tested this finished formula. Corrected 10 September 2026: this answer previously gave collagen as 500 mg and ashwagandha as 150 mg. The printed label and the certificate of analysis for lot 0125269 both say 250 mg and 100 mg, so the gap between our collagen dose and the trial doses is twice as wide as we had written.
Does the biotin in BLOOHAIR MEN affect blood tests?
It can. Each serving contains 3,000 mcg (3 mg) of biotin. The FDA has published a safety communication on biotin interfering with certain laboratory tests, including troponin, thyroid and vitamin D assays. Tell your physician and the laboratory that you take this product before any blood work, and never stop a prescribed medication over anything you read on a supplement page.
Can saw palmetto affect a PSA test?
The best available evidence says no. Corrected 7 September 2026: until that date this answer said that saw palmetto may lower PSA values and mask a change during prostate screening; we could not find a primary source for it, and the trials say otherwise. In the CAMUS randomised, placebo-controlled trial (369 men over 45, saw palmetto extract escalated from 320 mg to 960 mg a day over 72 weeks), the mean change in serum PSA was 0.23 ng/mL with saw palmetto and 0.16 ng/mL with placebo (p = 0.50): "saw palmetto extract does not affect serum prostate specific antigen more than placebo, even at relatively high doses" (Andriole et al., J Urol 2013;189:486-492). The STEP trial (225 men, 320 mg a day for one year) found no difference in PSA either (Bent et al., N Engl J Med 2006;354:557-566), and the NIH's NCCIH states that saw palmetto "does not appear to affect readings of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, even when taken in higher-than-usual amounts" (page updated April 2025; all read 7 September 2026). BLOOHAIR MEN carries 200 mg per serving, below every dose in those trials. What still applies: list every supplement you take to your doctor before a PSA test - the drug finasteride does lower PSA, and a physician needs the full list. Does BLOOHAIR MEN contain fish?
Yes. Each serving contains 250 mg of hydrolyzed marine collagen, a fish-derived ingredient, and we declare it in plain words rather than leaving you to infer it from the word "marine". Fish is a major allergen under US law. The bottle does not declare it: the printed panel reads "Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen" and carries no "Contains" statement, read on the label approved for print on 5 May 2026 and confirmed against a physical bottle on 15 September 2026. The declaration you can read is the one on this site. The formula is gluten free, soy free and dairy free, and that is measured rather than asserted: on lot 0125269 an independent laboratory found gluten below 4 ppm, soy below 0.04 ppm and milk below 0.4 ppm by ELISA. The capsule shell is cellulose, so the product contains no gelatin.
Is the formula clinically proven?
No controlled trial has tested this formula, so we do not use those words, and none is currently commissioned. Individual ingredients have published research at various doses, and the Supplement Facts page says where our doses sit against that research - including the two places where our dose is below the published one.
