Nutrafol vs Viviscal for Men: What Each Label Lets You Verify

Updated October 7, 202614 min read By the BLOOHAIR team
Nutrafol Men publishes 93 mg a day attributable to a named ingredient, Viviscal Man 347 mg and BLOOHAIR MEN 1,958 mg of 22 ingredients, on labels read 5 October 2026. Logarithmic scale.

Two of the best-known hair supplements for men sit side by side in search results, and the comparison usually ends at price and brand recognition. There is a shorter test, and it takes about thirty seconds on each product page: count how many ingredients carry a number you can attribute to one named ingredient. Read on 5 October 2026, Nutrafol Men prints an amount for 10 of the 24 ingredients it names. Viviscal Man prints an amount on 6 lines, and one of those lines is a 545 mg marine complex that covers more than one ingredient at once.

What is the difference between Nutrafol Men and Viviscal Man?

Nutrafol Men is a four-capsule daily serving built around two named blends — Synergen Complex at 1.72 g and Nutrafol Blend at 575 mg — with 14 of its 24 ingredients inside them. Viviscal Man is a two-tablet daily serving built around one trademarked marine complex, AminoMar, at 545 mg per tablet. Read on 5 October 2026, both labels publish a total for the complex and no amount for the ingredients inside it.

The two panels are public, and both are worth reading in full before any comparison. Nutrafol Men's panel opens from a View Supplement Label control on the product page: serving size 4 capsules, 30 servings per container, eleven nutrient lines, then the two blends. Viviscal Man's panel appears in the product gallery on its product page: serving size 1 tablet, 180 servings per container on the size photographed, three nutrient lines, then AminoMar, horsetail extract and flax seed extract.

The two serving sizes are not comparable until you double one of them

This is the first place a comparison goes wrong. Viviscal Man's panel is written per tablet, and the directions on the same page say to take two tablets a day. Every Viviscal number in this article has therefore been doubled to a daily figure: vitamin C 60 mg, calcium 122 mg, zinc 16 mg, AminoMar 1,090 mg, horsetail extract 49 mg, flax seed extract 100 mg. Nutrafol's panel is already written per four-capsule daily serving, and so is ours on the BLOOHAIR MEN Supplement Facts page.

How many ingredient amounts does each label publish?

Nutrafol Men names 24 ingredients and prints an amount for 10 of them; the eight that are not sodium or potassium add up to 93 mg per daily serving. Viviscal Man prints an amount on six lines: five name a single ingredient and total 347 mg a day, and the sixth is the AminoMar complex at 1,090 mg a day. BLOOHAIR MEN prints an amount for 22 of 22, totalling 1,958 mg a day.

Daily milligrams by destination: BLOOHAIR MEN 1,958 mg all attributable to a named ingredient; Viviscal Man 347 mg attributable and 1,090 mg inside AminoMar; Nutrafol Men 93 mg attributable and 2,295 mg inside Synergen Complex and Nutrafol Blend.

Where the Nutrafol and BLOOHAIR panels print the same number

Five lines are identical on the two labels, and saying so costs nothing: vitamin D3 at 62.5 mcg, biotin at 3,000 mcg, iodine from kelp at 225 mcg, zinc as an amino acid chelate at 25 mg, and selenium as an amino acid chelate at 200 mcg. These are category doses, not a point of difference, and we have written separately about what 3,000 mcg of biotin does to a blood test. Viviscal Man contains no biotin at all, which is its own answer to the question.

What a blend total does, and does not, tell you

A proprietary blend is not an infraction. 21 CFR 101.36 requires an amount per serving for each dietary ingredient at paragraph (b)(3)(ii), and paragraph (c)(3) lets a brand group ingredients under one name provided it publishes the total weight of the group and lists the components in descending order. Both labels do exactly that. Nothing is hidden in the sense of being illegal. What a reader loses is arithmetic: 1.72 g of Synergen Complex is a real 1.72 g, and there is no way from the label to know whether the saw palmetto inside it is 600 mg or 60 mg.

What is inside Synergen Complex and AminoMar?

Synergen Complex holds six ingredients under 1.72 g, Nutrafol Blend holds eight under 575 mg, and AminoMar holds a marine collagen complex and oyster extract powder under 545 mg per tablet. Read on 5 October 2026, none of the 16 ingredients inside those three groups carries an individual amount.

Synergen Complex: six ingredients, one number

In descending order as printed: saw palmetto extract (fruit) at 45% fatty acids, hydrolyzed marine collagen, Sensoril ashwagandha extract (root and leaf), BCM-95 Bio-Curcumin turmeric extract (rhizome) at 86% curcuminoids, palm extract (fruit) at 15% tocotrienol, and hyaluronic acid. The standardisations are published, which is more than most labels do; the milligrams are not. We walked through the whole of that panel in our ingredient-by-ingredient reading of Nutrafol Men.

Nutrafol Blend: eight ingredients, one number

L-lysine, L-cysteine, L-methionine, horsetail extract, Japanese knotweed extract at 50% resveratrol, keratin, black pepper extract at 95% piperine, and cayenne extract at 2% capsaicinoids — 575 mg between them.

AminoMar: a trademark, a total, and a list that sits elsewhere

The Viviscal Man panel prints one line, "AminoMar Marine Complex 545 mg", with a dagger for "Daily Value not established". The components appear in the ingredient statement further down the same page — "Collagen Complex, Oyster extract powder" — without amounts. So a buyer can learn that the 1,090 mg taken daily is mostly a marine collagen preparation and an oyster extract, and cannot learn in what proportion. For comparison, our own 250 mg of hydrolyzed marine collagen is printed as 250 mg, which is the only reason we were able to put ourselves into the survey of which hair supplements declare marine collagen as a fish allergen.

Can you read the Supplement Facts panel on the page?

On neither page, read 5 October 2026. Nutrafol Men's panel is an image that opens behind a control; Viviscal Man's is an image in the product gallery. Neither is selectable text, and Viviscal's panel image is the only place on the page where any amount appears at all.

The exact files are public and worth linking rather than describing: the Nutrafol Men label image and the Viviscal Man label image.

Why an image is a worse place for a number than a table

A screen reader does not read an image. Neither does a search engine, and neither does the answer engine that a man asking "how much zinc is in Viviscal" is increasingly likely to ask instead of a search box. The amount still exists; it has simply been put somewhere that only a sighted human with the page open can reach. Our own first survey of 40 labels failed our own product on this exact point, which is why our panel is now a table in text.

What does each one cost per month at renewal?

At the three-month plan, read 5 October 2026 and shipping included, Viviscal Man costs 32.00 USD a month, BLOOHAIR MEN costs 59.32 USD, and Nutrafol Men costs 74.67 USD. Viviscal Man is the cheapest of the three on every plan it sells.

Plan, at renewal Viviscal Man Nutrafol Men BLOOHAIR MEN
Monthly 36.00 USD, free shipping 79.00 USD, free shipping 64.99 USD + 9.99 shipping = 74.98 USD
Three months, per month 96.00 USD per cycle = 32.00 USD 224.00 USD per cycle = 74.67 USD 164.97 USD + 12.99 shipping per cycle = 59.32 USD
Six months, per month 180.00 USD per cycle = 30.00 USD 422.00 USD per cycle = 70.33 USD no six-month plan
One-time purchase 40.00 USD, + 6.95 shipping under 99 USD 88.00 USD no one-time purchase

All three sets of subscription figures are renewal prices, not introductory ones. Viviscal's and Nutrafol's subscription prices are permanent percentages off the list price — 10%, 20% and 25% for Viviscal, 10%, 15% and 20% for Nutrafol — and neither page uses the words "first order", "thereafter" or "subsequent" against a price. Our own first order is discounted and our renewal is not, so the renewal column is the only honest one to compare, as we set out in the full price comparison at renewal.

What the two cheaper subscriptions include that ours does not

This belongs in the middle of the article rather than at the end of it. Viviscal and Nutrafol both ship their subscriptions free; we charge 12.99 USD per 90-day cycle, and that is already inside the 59.32 USD above. Viviscal adds a free gift on a first order. Nutrafol's subscription includes wellness coaching with a naturopathic doctor, a hair mineral analysis test, a Headspace subscription, an app, and a results-in-six-months-or-your-money-back guarantee; BLOOHAIR MEN includes the bottle and nothing else. Nutrafol's label also carries the NSF Certified for Sport mark, which ours does not: our certification is of the American facility to NSF/ANSI 455-2, which is a different thing and should not be read as the same one. And both brands publish clinical research on their formula or their complex. No controlled trial has tested the BLOOHAIR MEN formula, and none is currently commissioned.

What does a month cost per attributable milligram?

Dividing the daily milligrams you can attribute to one named ingredient by the monthly price at the three-month plan, shipping included, gives 33.0 mg per dollar for BLOOHAIR MEN, 10.8 mg per dollar for Viviscal Man, and 1.2 mg per dollar for Nutrafol Men. The figure can be calculated at all only because each label publishes some amounts; for the 1,090 mg and 2,295 mg sitting inside complexes, it cannot be calculated.

Monthly price at the three-month plan against attributable milligrams a day: Viviscal Man 32.00 USD for 347 mg, BLOOHAIR MEN 59.32 USD for 1,958 mg, Nutrafol Men 74.67 USD for 93 mg, or 10.8, 33.0 and 1.2 mg per dollar.

Milligrams are not benefit, and a bigger number is not automatically better

We have written the opposite of a dose race before and we are not starting one now. A milligram of flax seed extract and a milligram of hydrolyzed keratin are not interchangeable; an ingredient can be present at a quantity that does nothing; and the 1,090 mg of AminoMar in a daily Viviscal dose are real milligrams that a buyer is really receiving, even though they cannot be split between two ingredients. What the figure above measures is not quality. It measures how much of what you pay for is a number you can check, which is a different and smaller claim.

The number that cannot be computed for either competitor

Cost per milligram of a specific active is the question most men actually want answered — how much saw palmetto, how much collagen, for how much money. Nutrafol publishes the standardisation of its saw palmetto extract at 45% fatty acids but not its weight, so the active fraction is not computable. Viviscal publishes neither a ratio nor a marker percentage for its horsetail or flax extracts. We found the same gap across the whole category when we counted the saw palmetto doses on 40 labels: only 6 of the 40 published both a weight and a standardisation, which is the pair you need to compute anything at all. The same arithmetic run against the one supplement Hims sells gives a third answer, and the Nutrafol and Hims comparison works it out line by line.

What do the two labels say about allergens?

Nutrafol Men declares "CONTAINS: Fish (Cod, Haddock, Pollock)". Viviscal Man declares "CONTAINS: MOLLUSKS". Fish is one of the nine major food allergens that must be declared under United States law; mollusks are not on that list, so Viviscal's declaration is voluntary and is to its credit.

The nine major allergens defined by the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act are milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. Mollusks — oysters, mussels, clams, scallops — are shellfish but are not crustaceans, and are therefore outside the list. A man with a shellfish allergy who has never been told which kind he has is exactly the reader this distinction matters to.

What our own label does, and what it does not

BLOOHAIR MEN contains 250 mg of hydrolyzed marine collagen, which is fish-derived. That is declared in plain words on our product page and on our Supplement Facts page. It is not printed on the bottle, and we have published that gap rather than waiting until it was fixed.

What can you verify on the BLOOHAIR MEN label?

Twenty-two ingredients out of twenty-two carry their own milligram, printed as selectable text on the page rather than inside an image: 1,958 mg a day attributable to a named ingredient, against 347 mg for Viviscal Man and 93 mg for Nutrafol Men.

Three things follow from that, and each of them is checkable in a browser rather than on our word. The panel itself is a table on the Supplement Facts page, where the two group headings carry a subtotal and every line underneath carries its own amount — 250 mg of hydrolyzed keratin, 250 mg of hydrolyzed marine collagen, 200 mg of MSM, 200 mg of saw palmetto extract at 45% fatty acids, and so on down to 10 mg of black pepper extract at 95% piperine. Nine of the ten botanical extracts carry a ratio or a marker percentage, so their active fraction can be computed. And the finished-product certificate of analysis for lot 0125269 is transcribed in full on the lab tests page, alongside the allergen report from Contract Testing Laboratories of America dated 19 December 2025 — a document that, when we surveyed 40 brands in our count of which hair supplements publish a certificate of analysis, none of the other 39 made available without contacting the company.

If that is the comparison you want to be able to run yourself, the panel, the certificate and the renewal price are all on the BLOOHAIR MEN product page, in text, before you are asked for an email address. The same test applied to the rest of the category is in our review of Nutrafol alternatives and what each label actually publishes.

Common questions about Nutrafol and Viviscal

Is Viviscal or Nutrafol better for men?

This article does not rank them, because a label cannot tell you that. What a label can tell you is how much of the formula is attributable to a named ingredient: on 5 October 2026 that was 93 mg a day for Nutrafol Men across eight quantified actives, and 347 mg a day for Viviscal Man across five, with 2,295 mg and 1,090 mg respectively published only as blend totals.

What is AminoMar, and what is inside it?

AminoMar is Viviscal's trademarked marine complex, printed on the panel as a single line at 545 mg per tablet, so 1,090 mg at the two-tablet daily dose. The ingredient statement on the same page names a collagen complex and oyster extract powder as its components, with no individual amounts. The complex is also why the label declares mollusks.

What is in Nutrafol's Synergen Complex?

Six ingredients under one total of 1.72 g: saw palmetto extract at 45% fatty acids, hydrolyzed marine collagen, Sensoril ashwagandha extract, BCM-95 turmeric extract at 86% curcuminoids, palm extract at 15% tocotrienol, and hyaluronic acid. A second group, Nutrafol Blend, holds eight more ingredients under 575 mg.

Which costs more per month, Nutrafol or Viviscal?

Nutrafol, at every plan. Read 5 October 2026, Nutrafol Men is 79.00 USD monthly, 74.67 USD a month on the three-month plan and 70.33 USD on the six-month plan; Viviscal Man is 36.00 USD, 32.00 USD and 30.00 USD. Both ship subscriptions free. BLOOHAIR MEN is 59.32 USD a month on its 90-day plan with shipping included.

Do Nutrafol or Viviscal publish a certificate of analysis?

Neither product page did when we searched both sites for our 40-label survey, and neither did on 5 October 2026. The Nutrafol Men label does carry the NSF Certified for Sport mark, which is a certification of the product and its testing programme; it is not the same as publishing the certificate of analysis for the lot in the bottle you receive.
